Sue Tredget moved to Perth, Western Australia from the UK in 1999. Having worked full-time as a language teacher for many years, she took a break in 2014 to reflect, reconnect with friends and family, travel, and replenish her spirit. It was during this year that she began to explore her creativity through writing.

Inspired by the spring flowers while on a walking holiday in Spain, Sue began composing rhymes in her head and dreamed of writing books for children, a dream that has become the children’s picture book series My Colour Collection. She is passionate about encouraging parents and children to share the joy of reading and never wants to lose touch with her inner child.

Sue continues to work in education on a more flexible basis, which enables her to live a more balanced, mindful and creative life and do the things which make her heart sing. She is also the author of Changing Lightbulbs: A Journey Through Anxiety and Depression and Transformation: A Collection of Poems to Heal and Replenish the Spirit.

To share her writing with the world, Sue created Causeway Publishing, inspired by the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland where she grew up, famous for its amazing hexagonal stones and columns. She draws much of her inspiration for her writing from the beauty of the natural world, her daily observations of the little things in life, and her travels.

Reviews from Good Reads

South Africa, February 2019 ✩✩✩✩✩

I absolutely loved reading this book. It’s like Sue was having a conversation with me. I can so relate to everything she has written … loved her humour as well. Her book has definitely given me hope. Hope to explore and find myself. It beats any self-help book I have ever read. Changing Lightbulbs is real and so honest.  Very uplifting and inspiring.

A most insightful deeply thought-provoking read of one woman’s journey through the depths of depression. I thoroughly recommend it for anyone who is experiencing the Black Dog  themselves or has friends or family going through a similar journey. A must read.

Changing Lightbulbs is an uplifting and deeply personal memoir detailing a struggle with anxiety and depression. It is very well written. With humour, insight and refreshing honesty the author outlines her journey from the depths of despair to eventual happiness and contentment in an engaging and positive narrative. I would highly recommend this book, particularly for anyone dealing with similar issues.

Extracts from reader emails and letters

September 2018

I found your thoughtful dialogue about your journey through depression funny, heartbreaking and real… I began to understand the guilt associated with having so much to be grateful for and still feeling like shit. One of the hardest things for me as a mother is to walk beside my adult children without trying to hide or fix their depression. I was part way through your book when I had a lovely conversation with my son about some of the funny anecdotes you had told. What interested him most was that finally someone had written a book about how it was rather than a self-help manual…now it’s time to share my appreciation of your courageous story and thank you for sharing it with our family.

June 2018

I am so glad I bought your book… I was blown away by all the areas you covered (and all equally as important as each other on the road to recovery and beyond)…and the witty and often quite personal accounts of your life brightened up what can be a pretty serious subject… you covered them all, no mean feat…

Your last chapter paragraph was sooooo powerful.  A brilliant summary and conclusion.

Often others may think someone suffering anxiety is weak….but they in fact are the bravest people you could ever meet….every day they face their fears and work towards getting better.

Thank you for sharing your joy of the written word by writing your marvellous book.  It’s a winner! (I really love the quotes…and love, love, love,  Pooh and Piglet on page 183).

I am emailing to thank you for your wonderful book, Changing Lightbulbs … I was struck by the number of similarities in our lives and as I read your story, there were many times when I felt I was reading my own. As a result of reading your story, I have seen my doctor … after battling the emotions that were raging within me for many months.  For the first time in many moons I am optimistic about my future.

January 2018

I finished your book this morning and felt the desire to write to you and thank you. I read your book and felt reconciled. I felt at peace and comforted by the fact that some of the feelings I have had throughout periods of my life are normal.

January 2018

I have just finished your book. A massive thing for me. An avid avid reader and not finished a book in the past 3 years. It resonated on many many levels with what I went through…you put into words what I felt. Strength to all of us.

December 2017

I absolutely loved your book… I love the quotes…your honesty…the humour… Thank you for sharing your personal journey… the world is a much better place because you are still in it making a difference.
